Charismatic species are visually and emotionally appealing animal species commonly used by conservation groups to increase public support for conservation and raise funds. Keystone species are those that have a significant effect on their ecosystem, such as mangrove trees, starfish, prairie dogs. Some charismatic species, such as African elephants, African lions, and sea otters, are also keystone species, while others, such as giant pandas, giraffes, and koalas, are not generally considered keystones.
